01 In short
What does Exyconn build for law firms and legal teams?
AI for legal practice is software that takes the clerical and first-pass work of a law firm, such as screening enquiries, marking up contracts, finding past drafts, watching cause lists and recording time, so lawyers spend their hours on advice and advocacy. Exyconn designs, builds and runs these agents on your matter management system, document store, email and calendar. They draft and flag; a lawyer reviews and decides, and nothing is sent to a client unchecked.
Why firms are doing this now
- Clients expect a marked-up contract in days, and much of a first review is checking clauses against positions the firm already holds.
- A firm's best precedents sit in partners' folders and old email threads where nobody else can find them.
- Hearing dates move with every cause list, and a missed limitation date cannot be undone.
- Time recorded at month end from memory is time that is under-billed or written off.
- Clients now ask in writing how their documents are protected, including from AI tools.
02 The reality
Where a firm's unbilled hours actually go
Partners and associates name the same list. Very little of it is law; all of it has to be done carefully.
- L/01
Enquiries that are not yet matters
Calls and messages arrive with half the facts. Someone senior has to read each one to decide whether it is in the firm's practice areas, urgent, or not a matter at all.
- L/02
Conflict checks by email
A new client's name is circulated to the partners and checked against memory and an old spreadsheet. It works until the related company or the other side's director is missed.
- L/03
Associates reading boilerplate
Every NDA, lease and vendor agreement gets a full read to find the five clauses that differ from the firm's standard position. The associate's time goes into finding them, not judging them.
- L/04
Drafts the firm has already written
A good share-purchase agreement or written submission exists somewhere in the document store, but finding it means knowing who worked on it and what they named the file.
- L/05
Cause lists checked by hand
Clerks check daily cause lists and case status across several courts and tribunals, then update a diary. Adjournments, new dates and limitation periods all depend on that one manual step.
- L/06
Time reconstructed at month end
Calls, emails and drafting are pieced together from calendars and sent folders before invoices go out. What is forgotten is never billed, and narratives are too vague for clients to accept.
03 Use cases
Six jobs AI takes off your lawyers and clerks
- 01
Client intake and conflict checks
Answers enquiries that come to your website, email or WhatsApp, collects the facts and parties, checks names against your matter management system for conflicts and books a consultation. It does not give advice or go looking for clients.
- 02
First-pass contract review
Compares an incoming contract with your playbook clause by clause, marks deviations in tracked changes with the firm's fallback wording and lists missing clauses. The associate reviews every change before it goes to the client.
- 03
Research over your own precedents
Searches the firm's past drafts, opinions, pleadings and notes in your document store and returns the relevant passages with links to the source file. It only searches documents the lawyer asking is allowed to open.
- 04
Deadlines and hearing dates
Reads cause lists and case status for your matters each day, updates hearing dates in the matter system and calendars, and computes reply and limitation deadlines for a lawyer to confirm. Changes are sent to the matter team on email or WhatsApp.
- 05
Time tracking and billing
Suggests time entries from calls, meetings, emails and document edits against the right matter, for the lawyer to accept or change. Approved time flows into draft invoices with clear narratives for partner review.
- 06
Confidentiality and access control
Applies matter-level permissions and ethical walls to every agent action, so no one sees a document through the AI that they could not open directly. Every query and document view is logged for the partners.
04 A day with it running
One day at a twelve-lawyer litigation and corporate firm
A Monday with two hearings and a closing on Friday. Each moment lights the part of the practice the agent is working on.
-
07:30
The day's board, already read
Today's cause lists are checked for the firm's matters. One case has moved from item 14 to item 3, and the junior on it gets a WhatsApp before leaving home.
-
09:15
An overnight enquiry, sorted
A startup founder wrote in at midnight about a co-founder exit. The agent has collected the shareholding, checked both names for conflicts and booked a call with the corporate partner.
-
11:00
A vendor agreement marked up
A client sends a 40-page master services agreement. In minutes the associate has a tracked-changes draft showing the indemnity, liability cap and termination clauses that differ from the firm's playbook.
-
13:30
An ethical wall holds
A trainee searches for a company name that belongs to a matter they are walled off from. The agent returns nothing from that matter, and the attempt is logged for the managing partner.
-
16:00
Last year's submissions, found
An associate asks for the firm's written submissions on interim injunctions in trademark cases. The agent returns three past filings with the relevant paragraphs and links to each file.
-
19:45
The day's time, ready to approve
Each lawyer gets suggested entries for the day's calls, emails and drafting, matched to matters. Most are accepted with one tap, and the narratives are ready for the month's invoices.
05 How it connects
Built on the systems you already run
06 By practice
What it looks like for your kind of practice
Court work with a lean team
Advocates & small chambers
For an advocate with one or two juniors and a clerk, the first win is the diary. We start with cause-list tracking and hearing reminders, then add intake so enquiries are answered while you are in court.
- Daily cause-list checks across your courts
- Hearing and limitation reminders on WhatsApp
- Enquiry screening and consultation booking
Volume of documents and matters
Full-service law firms
Larger firms gain most from first-pass review and precedent search, where associate hours concentrate. Both run inside the firm's permissions, with time capture feeding billing.
- Playbook-based contract mark-ups
- Search across the firm's document store
- Suggested time entries and draft invoices
Reports, opinions and engagements
Consulting & advisory firms
Tax, regulatory and management consultancies write long reports from earlier work. Agents find past opinions and analyses, draft first versions from them and keep engagement deadlines in view.
- Drafts built from your past reports
- Regulatory and filing deadline tracking
- Client-level access control
07 Rollout
Start with the diary, then the documents
We begin with work that carries no advice risk, such as dates and intake, and move into documents once your lawyers trust the output.
-
01 · Week 1
Map matters and permissions
We list your systems, courts and practice areas, and agree how matter access and ethical walls apply to anything the agent reads.
-
02 · Weeks 2–4
Dates and intake go live
Cause-list tracking, hearing reminders and enquiry screening are switched on, with a clerk checking every date in the first weeks.
-
03 · Weeks 5–10
Contracts, precedents and time
Your playbooks are loaded for contract review, the document store is indexed by permission, and time suggestions start for one team.
-
04 · Ongoing
Run and improve
We review flagged errors with your lawyers, update playbooks as positions change and report usage to the partners each month.

09 FAQ
Questions law firms ask us
Does this replace associates or paralegals?
No. It takes the first pass: finding deviations, pulling precedents, updating dates and drafting time entries. A lawyer reviews every mark-up and decides what advice is given, and juniors spend more of their time on the analysis they are trained for.
Which practice management and document systems does it work with?
Any matter management, document management or billing system with an API or a reliable export, along with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace for email and calendars and the public eCourts services for case status. In the first week we confirm what your setup exposes.
What about client confidentiality and privilege?
Documents stay in your own document store or a private environment set up for the firm, and are not used to train any public model. Matter-level permissions and ethical walls apply to every search, and all access is logged. The setup follows the DPDP Act 2023 for personal data, and the GDPR where you act for clients in Europe.
Can it work with documents in Indian languages?
Yes. It can read and search documents and talk to clients in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and other Indian languages as well as English. For filings and court translations a lawyer or certified translator still checks the text.
What happens if the AI gets a date or a clause wrong?
Dates computed by the agent are shown to a lawyer to confirm, and every contract change is a tracked suggestion, not a final edit. Where it is unsure, it says so. Each correction is fed back so the same mistake is caught next time.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the number of lawyers, courts and systems involved. Most firms start with hearing-date tracking and intake, which are quick to set up; tell us about your practice and we'll send a fixed quote for that first phase.
